Mandy Marcus is a recent college graduate, aspiring artist, documentary filmmaker, and event planner.
During her four years at Pomona College in Claremont, California, Marcus worked at KSPC 88.7 FM, the campus radio station, in a variety of positions including publicity director, assistant music director, general manager and program director. Marcus also worked as a KSPC DJ for over three years and occasionally DJ’d parties with Karen Isaac under the moniker Teen Momz.
Starting her freshman year of college, Marcus began booking shows. She created and planned Vajammin’, a festival celebrating women in music, Run For Cover: 5 College Covers Night and No-Chella, a free alternative to the Coachella music festival. Additionally, Marcus planned countless single shows and non-music events during her time at Pomona College with more than a few highlights. Marcus collaborated to plan the 5-C Film Festival. In addition to planning she hosted the event and had a short animation featured in the festival.
Marcus also worked on the executive board of Studio 47, Pomona College’s film society, for three years. She currently interns with the DIY Business Association and Panache Booking. Marcus loves live music, cult films, blogging, and community building. She aspires to own a DIY community space hosting art, music, and film events.
Cat Party [Mandy Marcus, 2010]
Short documentary. 5mins.
For my thesis project I chose to create a temporary venue based on the idea that the environment in which people experience live music is as important to the experience as the performance. The venue also plays an important role in cultivating a strong sense of self for the audience members. My venue was called Cat Party and existed at the Smith Campus Center Gallery at Pomona from November 4th to November 7th 2010.
I planned the event, shot the footage and edited the documentary using FCP.
There is also a thesis paper about the event which I can make available to you upon request? But it’s not very good.
I deleted my old youtube account (yet I somehow have 5 tumblr accounts?) for various reasons but because of this all my video links are dead. Additionally, I haven’t updated my graphic work in a long time. I’ll also be adding some finished creative writing in the future (perhaps). So all of that is coming soon.
